Suspect in stag do man’s death ‘released from prison’ by court in Benidorm

A BRITISH tourist who was dramatically detained by police at Alicante-Elche Airport on Spain’s Costa Blanca following the death of a Scot in Benidorm has reportedly been released from custody.

The airport arrest followed the death of a Scottish man, Jim Clark, who allegedly died from a head injury on the first night of a Benidorm stag do in the ‘guiri (English) zone’.

According to local media reports the unnamed man had spent a month in prison before being released by the court last week. It is understood that the investigating judge has told the accused he must sign on at court every fortnight but has not banned the individual from leaving Spain.

Sources in Benidorm say the man’s release follows inconclusive autopsy results which haven’t shown a direct link between a fight and Mr Clark’s cause of death.

No charges have yet been brought against the suspect but he remains ‘under investigation’.
