SIZZLING: First heat wave hits Spain with scorching temperatures reaching 35°

SOARING temperatures and “extremely hot” weather has been predicted for most of Spain this weekend by AEMET’s spokesman, Ruben del Campo.

This Sunday is expected to be a roasting day throughout nearly the entire peninsula, especially in the eastern half of the country and in the Canary Islands, where temperatures could reach between 10 and 15 degrees above the standard for this time of year.

Cities such as Cordoba, Seville, Huelva and the Guadalquivir Valley could reach up to 37° Celsius, temperatures that are more common after the second half of June.

“It’s the first heat episode of 2019”, highlighted Ruben del Campo.

These summer temperatures can be expected due to a warm, dry air mass originating from Africa.

The sizzling weather has been guaranteed at least until Monday May 13 but temperatures are expected to drop the following day.
