A NEW European initiative will see 510 locations around Spain benefit from free wireless internet. Each location will receive €15,000 in European Commission funding to install the networks in public places. The European Commission has announced the name of further 3,400 European municipalities which will now provide internet in plazas, parks, museums, libraries and health centres. The scheme, Wifi4EU, which has been running for several years will see connections in between 6,000 and 8,000 parts of the EU between 2018 and 2020. According to a report from Brussels, 98 per cent of municipalities submitted the online request for the funding within one minute of the registration period opening. Spain, Italy and France were among the biggest winners in the lottery for the funding.
