READERS beware!
Somebody crouching near a vehicle’s back wheel at a motorway rest area or tollbooth isn’t concerned about its tyres.
This person will be giving one of the tyres a slow puncture so that when the driver has to halt a few kilometres further down the motorway, gang members have an excuse to stop to “help.”
Meanwhile others will take whatever they can from the interior at the same time that the distracted car-owner is probably thanking them.
Often victims do not realise until later that they have been robbed, said police in Cataluña.
The regional Mossos d’Esquaudra force have now posted a warning video on the social media, showing different versions of the scam in action,
These gangs particularly like to pick on foreign-registered vehicles and the Mossos advised drivers to stay put inside their locked vehicles and call the police if faced with any kind of suspicious occurrence on a motorway or main road.
