A HOTEL in the old town of Palma was evacuated because of a fire in the basement of the building Yyestrerday afternoon. Fire fighters were called to the scene in Calle Miramar at 4pm. It is thought the blaze started in a spa area of the hotel, with an investigation into the cause underway. Palma fire brigade reported that the hotel was not full at that time of the day, and they had to evacuate only nine people. Despite thick smoke, firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control quickly, although they stayed to ventilate the building and dampen down. No one was seriously hurt in the incident, although several people were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.
