How Spain – and the World – is Embracing the Online Casino Phenomenon

Following a hard day at work or doing chores at home, there is nothing quite like unwinding by playing a few games.
Whether it is sitting down in front of a console or getting your thumbs tapping on a mobile, gaming is a great way for people to relax and enjoy themselves.
However, if new figures are to be believed, there is one specific part of the gaming world which has really been embraced in Spain across the early part of this year.

Glitz and glamour

Casinos have been popular for a number of decades, with such establishments being synonymous with the glitz and glamour of the rich and famous.
Part of their allure is also arguably driven by their association with James Bond, as the suave spy has been visiting the establishments ever since he sat down for a game of baccarat in his first big-screen outing, Dr No, back in 1962.

However, while land-based casinos remain a major draw, the casino industry has undoubtedly been transformed by the rise of online services. So many different sites are now available for people to try their hand at a range of games, from the classics like blackjack and poker to a host of new variations which have emerged.
This page on Aspers roulette games is a prime example of this, as it shows how the site offers Deal or No Deal Roulette, Monopoly Roulette Tycoon and Double Bonus Spin roulette among a host of different variants.
Such developments have helped the casino industry as a whole reach new heights, with figures estimating that the gross gaming yield of the global casino market will reach $130 billion this year.

Headline growth

Now, recently released figures have put a spotlight on how people in Spain appear to have been really embracing online gambling.
According to new official statistics from the country’s gambling regulatory authority, the Spanish online gambling market achieved gross gaming revenue of €193.25 million in the first quarter of 2019. This was found to equate to a 2.14 per cent increase from the previous quarter, as well as an increase of more than 20 per cent on the same period 12 months ago.
Looking more specifically at online casinos, the research revealed that the sites generated revenue of €67.1 million. This equates to more than a third of the total revenue generated, with the segment achieving an annual variation rate of 20.17 per cent. According to the regulatory body, much of the growth could be linked specifically to the popularity of slot games.

Rude health

Such findings are undoubtedly fascinating and highlight how the online gambling market in Spain appears to be in rude health at the moment. While the popularity of casinos in general has endured for many years, the rise of the internet really seems to have transformed the industry and opened up a huge number of people to so many different games.
It will be intriguing to see how these figures develop across the rest of the year and whether Spain will continue to embrace the online casino experience in the months ahead.
