THE seizure of just short of 22,000 marijuana plants and 42 arrests is the result of nearly 50 Almeria Guardia Civil operations into illegal cannabis plantations and related drug sale and distribution activities in the first half of the year. The majority of the detainees also face charges of defrauding the power supply. The Guardia found 47 unauthorized connections to the electricity network to power equipment like air-conditioning units. In a number of the cases Guardia charged individuals with illegal ownership of arms. The Guardia reported they had carried out operations all over the province, in both towns and rural areas, but drew attention to the number of investigations in the Poniente part of the province over the six-month period, particularly Roquetas de Mar. There were 18 operations in Roquetas, 15 in Vicar, seven in Adra and six in El Ejido.
