AN ASSOCIATION of residents living in a Costa del Sol town have donated €17,000 to the Cudeca cancer charity and hospice.

The Torreblanca Resident’s Association (ASTOR) presented the charity with a cheque for €17,000 at an event at Cudeca’s Los Boliches shop held today (Monday).

ASTOR President Lee Cashin told Euro Weekly News the association were donating the money, set aside to fight further development in existing urbanisations, because their organisation is winding up.

“We had about two million pesetas in the fund which was created in the 1980’s and that stayed in the bank and earned interest.

“But we never needed it and the association is closing because there is very little to do. So we decided to give Cudeca the money because they’ve worked closely with people we know and they always speak very highly of them,” Cashin said.

Susan Hannam, Vice President of Cudeca , told Euro Weekly News the donation was ‘absolutely wonderful’ for the charity.

“They gave us so much and it was wonderful that they thought to support us,” Hannam said.

The vice president added the money would go into the charity’s general coffers to subsidise staff and running costs.

“We have more than 70 doctors, psychologists and other professionals working for us and they look after about 400 people at the moment,” Hannam said.
