HOTEL FIRE: 600 people were evacuated early this morning Credit: Bombers De Palma
SIX people have been taken to hospital, 30 treated for smoke inhalation and 600 evacuated during a hotel fire in Mallorca. Firefighters from Mallorca, Llucmajor, Calvia and Inca stations joined colleagues from Palma, as well as Local Police and medics at 5am this morning (July 2). They were called to the three-star Whala Beach Hotel, in calle Miramar, S’Arenal, after a fire broke out in one of the rooms. Customers and hotel workers were evacuated as firefighters tackled the blaze. By around 8.30am the fire had been extinguished and some customers were allowed back to their rooms. The six people taken to hospital, including one firefighter suffering from heat exhaustion, are said to have slight injuries. The 30 suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation were treated at the scene.
