GUARDIA Civil tracked down a knife-wielding mugger after they used a stolen credit card. The victim reported they were leaving a nightspot in Nijar back in April when a hooded individual came up behind them and took out a large knife. The robber got away with their wallet and mobile phone. Investigations revealed someone had been using one of the victim’s credit cards with a contactless payment system to make purchases in San Isidro of less than €20, so therefore not requiring a PIN number, adding up to €131. Officers were able to match the victim’s description of their attacker with information gleaned from the establishment where the credit card was used to identify the suspect. It turned out he had a record for similar crimes. Guardia arrested the individual identified as 25-year old C.C. from Nijar at the end of June. The Guardia said the investigation remained open and that further arrests have not been ruled out.
