MORE THAN 200 extra National Police officers have been deployed on the Costa del Sol to bolster security during the peak tourist season.
National Police sources said the officers would be shared between the Costa del Sol’s main holiday destinations under the Interior Ministry’s Safe Tourism Plan.
Malaga City is set to get 60 extra officers while 35 are due to go to Marbella. A further 25 will go to Torremolinos and Benalmadena while Fuengirola, Estepona and Velez-Malaga will each get 20.
A total of 15 are due to be deployed in Antequera while 10 will go to Ronda.
The officers are recent graduates from the Avila Police Academy in Castilla y Leon. They are being deployed on the Costa del Sol in part to hone skills learned at the academy, police sources said.
