THE Guardia Civil has released a statement confirming the exact cause of death of two year old Julen Rosallo whose body was rescued on January 26 after the toddler fell down an unattended well.
According to a report by the Department of Environment of the Criminalistics Service of the Civil Guard, Julen was buried under debris loosened by his fall down the well.
According to researchers, as he was falling he would have pulled materials from the sides of the uneven shaft which would eventually smother the boy at the bottom.
Evidence of dirt was found in his hands and in his oesophagus confirming suffocation. A total of 23 soil samples were taken from the area to analyse and to rule out the possibility that he was intentionally buried or that he was killed by falling stones.
Last week the prosecutors requested that the owner of the well, David Serrano, serve three years in prison for criminal negligence and to pay compensation to the family of Julen for damages caused.
