Hospital room closures Credit: Facebook
THE Marina Baixa Hospital in Villajoyosa has made the rather surprising decision to close 17 of its rooms during the busiest time of the year. The hospital has stated that the closure is due to the necessary reformation of the surgery floor as there are “less programmed operations” during the summer months. Health staff unions, however, believe that the closures are due to cuts to staff. The Marina Baixa Hospital has come under fire in the past for not having enough beds or staff for the population it serves. It is unclear what the reason is at this time but many feel the closure could not come at a worse time.
