Murder investigation: New born baby found in a bin

POLICE are treating the case of a new born baby found dead in a rubbish container as murder.

The body of the baby was found in a dumpster in the Nuevo Roces neighbourhood in Gijon, according to National Police. A man rummaging through the bin at 3am last Friday made the discovery.A forensic team attended the site, then two days later a post mortem examination revealed the child had been killed shortly after birth, according to media reports.

According to the newspaper ‘El Comercio’, the baby had suffered cuts and had internal injuries which affected its internal organs.

The investigation being carried out by the police remains open. Officers have asked all hospitals in the area to report if any woman enters with symptoms of having recently given birth. Complications that could lead to the mother’s admission may include infections or internal bleeding.

Police say that the baby was born alive. The police assume that the child was not born in a hospital. They also believe that he had been in the container for a maximum of a few hours, since the man who found him had searched through the same bin the previous afternoon.
