The municipality of Vila Joiosa has joined the campaign ‘Turtles in the Mediterranean’, in order to raise awareness among swimmers and visitors to the beaches of the municipality about how to act in the presence of the loggerhead turtle on the coasts.
La Vila Joiosa is one of the 43 municipalities in the Valencia Region that have joined this campaign, promoted by the Oceanogràfic Foundation in collaboration with the Red Cross. Posters appeared on various beaches around the areas as well as in the municipal offices in order to make the public aware of what to do in the face of these sightings.
The campaign suggests that anyone who discovers the turtles on a beach should call 112 in order to the Department of Agriculture and Ecological Transition and the Oceanogràfic Foundation.
“We ask for the collaboration of citizens so that all those who visit our beaches and come across any loggerhead turtle will contact the relevant network for rescue and care”, said Councillor for the Environment, José Carlos Gil.
