THE former King of Spain will undergo surgery for the seventeenth time this Saturday after an annual medical review he received at the start of June.
The 81-year-old withdrew from public life in May whereby he was removed from the institutional agenda of the Royal Family.
Two weeks stepping down, he underwent his periodic medical exam which revealed he would need to undergo cardiac surgery.
The exact nature of the operation has not been revealed, however, he will be taken to Clínica Quirón de Pozuelo (Madrid) for the procedure.
Sources close to the family suggest the operation is nothing to worry about due lack of urgency of the appointment.
This latest operation comes after he has recently received surgery to remove a lesion under his eye due to overexposure to the sun.
His ailments, however, haven’t stopped him going about his daily business. At the end of July he participated in the Sailing World Cup in Finland where his boat, the ‘Rogue’ took first place in the 6m category.
