The former king of Spain, Juan Carlos, underwent a successful triple heart bypass procedure at the Quironsalud University Hospital in Madrid.
The 81-year-old former monarch was admitted into hospital on Friday and told reporters “You’ll see me on the way out,” as he walked in.
King Felipe VI went to visit his father around midday accompanied by his mother Sofia, the former queen of Spain and the hospital commented that the former king was moved to the recovery unit after the procedure.
Juan Carlos reigned as king of Spain for almost 39 years before he abdicated in 2014, making his only son the new king.
