AEMET, the State Meteorological Agency, has issued a weather warning for severe storms across the Costa Blanca and Mallorca. The forecasts show that a ‘gota fria’ (cold drop) is forming and the storm looks to be worse than was anticipated yesterday, so much so that AEMET has already raised the alert from yellow (risk) to orange (significant risk) for both rain and storms. The alert is in place from midnight on Monday and will remain active, if no changes are recorded, throughout Tuesday until 9 pm. During this period, according to Aemet, rainfall of up to 40 mm could fall in just one hour along the entire coast of the province of Alicante. The storm warning is set for the same period of time, but only for the case of Alicante’s north coast, the Marina Alta area. AEMET has updated the warning on its website and has also sent the bulletins to the municipalities in the area in order to activate the emergency protocols in the event of heavy rains.
