South America will become much easier to access by Spanish tourists next year after the announcement that Air Europa will start to conduct flights between Madrid and Juan Santamaría International Airport in Alajuela (Costa Rica)
The route will be operated by Air Europa’s sister company, Globalia and according to company director Diego García, the route comes of part of the companies venture into the South American market after they débuted flights to Panama City, Panama, Medellín, Colombia, Iguazú, Argentina, and Fortaleza, Brazil this year.
There is also plans to open a flight between Madrid and Colombia in 2020 according to airline agency Agencia EFE.
Iberia is currently operating a similar flight with much success. The nation’s largest airline flies from its hub in Madrid to Juan Santamaría Airport in Costa Rica using Airbus A330 and A340 aircraft.
According to figures, Costa Rica welcomes over 480,000 European tourists in 2018, 68,000 of them came from Spain, with July and August being the most popular months to travel.
