THE Councillor for the Environment, Josep Llorens and Councillor for Citizen Participation of the City Council of Oliva, Josep Escrivà, joined the citizen initiative aimed at highlighting the scourge of cigarette butts on local beaches. With the motto “The beach is not an ashtray,” Rosa Martínez, a resident of Oliva, organised this campaign to raise awareness amongst residents in the community. The organisers always collected rubbish and cigarette ends from the beach when they visited but decided to keep them to show people just how much rubbish is actually collected. Josep Llorens said that “from the Department of the Environment, we support these initiatives that make us think, raise awareness and act on the dirt that humans put on our beaches. It is a task of the whole town “
