THE launch of an 061 emergencies centre based in the old Vera health centre and serving the Almeria North Health District is a step closer, the local authority reported.
A delegation of officials from the local council and health bodies accompanied technicians and management staff from the 061 Health Emergencies Public Company in Malaga on an inspection of the facilities on Tuesday.
The delegation included Vera Mayor Jose Carmelo Jorge Blanco, Junta de Andalucia Health and Family delegate in Almeria Juan de la Cruz Belmonte, municipal representatives and members of the Almeria North Health District management team.
Juan de la Cruz said the centre “complies with all the necessary technical requirement for offering the service.”
The delegate repeated his commitment to have the service “operating as soon as possible so it is functioning before the end of the year.”
Vera council said the new service would have six doctors, six nurses and various other emergency staff, along with two ambulances and air transport.
It would function together with the 112 service through a medical coordinator, who would distribute the assistance call-outs.
It would be “a significant advance for the region”, the delegate said.
