FOR the seventh consecutive year, Torrox held the ‘Solidarity Swimming Tour’ in collaboration with the NGO Amigos de Anzaldo on despite Mother Nature almost putting a halt on proceedings. Some 134 swimmers participating in the event were greeted by overcast skies and a rough sea which led to a delay of some hours as the organisers waited for conditions to calm down. The sea eventually eased to allow the simmers to get in the water and begin the charity swim. This year, €1400 raised at the event will go towards the construction of a small dam in the village of San José (Bolivia) which will help the residents improve their daily life. Braving the conditions, Zayra Cayuela eventually conquered the women’s category whilst Pablo Cordero Jimena emerged victorious in the male.
