Young mother stabbed to death in front of children in Madrid

A 30-YEAR woman was stabbed to death in front of her two young children at her home in Madrid on Tuesday evening in another suspected case of gender-based violence.

Police have arrested the victim’s partner, an Ecuadorian in his forties, Spanish media reported.

The attack took place in the Ciudad Lineal district of the capital. The 112 Emergencies Madrid service said on Twitter that it was the victim’s eight-year old daughter who called them about what had happened to their mother.

According to Spanish media an emergency services team found the woman of Paraguayan origin slumped on the floor at the entrance to the building where the family lived. She had stab wounds to her chest and stomach and had gone into cardio-respiratory arrest. Despite efforts to save her life she died from her injuries.

If the case is confirmed as gender-based violence it would make it the 42nd death of women at the hands of their partners or ex-partners in Spain this year.

Earlier this week a man was arrested in Pontevedra for killing his ex-wife, her mother and her sister.
