CALPE is preparing an Age-friendly Action Plan with input from the town’s senior citizens.
The town hall organised eight workshops for older residents in order to hear their views on making Calpe more age-friendly.
The local government has received more than 250 suggestions covering
transport, housing, health, citizens’ participation and social services.
These are now being assessed by a technical team that will decide if these are viable and can be incorporated in the town hall’s Action Plan.
“We wanted to give Calpe’s senior citizens a voice and hear their proposals,” said the local mayor Ana Sala.
“Nobody knows better than they how we can respond more efficiently to their problems and needs.”
The Age-friendly Cities and Communities initiative is promoted by the World Health Organisation to create surroundings and services that ensure an active and healthy old age.
This involves providing facilities and policies supporting the Third Age while allowing them to participate fully in local society, the town hall explained..
