Police are asking for people to look out for 'invisible' crime.
A 38-year-old woman in Malaga has been arrested for allegedly ill-treating her dependent septuagenarian mother.
Her husband, 40, has also been arrested for his alleged involvement.
According to the National Police, another daughter of the victim filed a complaint claiming that her mother was suffering from neglect, as well as psychological ill-treatment by her sister and her husband who were the woman’s carers.
Police say the victim was subjected to threats and insults, in addition to living in circumstances of neglect, lack of hygiene and social isolation. In their view the detainees “intended to have absolute control over the victim’s income.”
Officers also found that on several occasions health workers who visited the house to treat the victim found they were denied entry.
For this reason, the Municipal Social Services have also prepared a report on the woman’s situation.
The Family and Women’s Unit of the Provincial Police of Malaga is asking people to be on the look-out for such “invisible” crimes and to report them to the authorities.
