ANGLERS will be competing in a fishing tournament to promote the sport in Benalmadena.
The Sports Fishing Club of Benalmadena is organising the event on Saturday September 28 on the beach of Fuente de la Salud with the support of the Andalusian Federation of Sport Fishing.
Manuel J. Jiménez, manager of the Port, applauded this new sports initiative and invited fishing enthusiasts from the town and its neighbouring municipalities to participate.
The event will also be an opportunity to raise awareness of respect for the marine environment and sustainable fishing.
President of the organising club, Antonio Zaragoza, is expecting as many as 50 competitors to take part in the tournament which is being held for the first time.
The cost of entering the competition will be 20 euros and each entrant will be asked to donate a kilo of non-perishable food that will be donated to needy locals.
Zaragoza thanked the Puerto Deportivo and the Municipal Sports Board for their support for the initiative.
Anglers will meet at 6pm on Saturday and the tournament will begin at 8pm and end at 1am.
After the competition, the awards ceremony and gift raffle will take place among the participants, as well as a small picnic among the attendees.
