‘Girls Speak Out’ on rights at European Parliament

GIRLS are raising their voices to demand rights at the European Parliament.

A group of 15 young women will be taking part in the ‘Girls Speak Out’ event on Wednesday, October 9 as part of the European Week of Action for Girls .

Group members will come from Kenya, Uganda, Pakistan, Tanzania, Kosovo and EU countries to Brussels to lobby recently elected MEPs including Spain´s Iratxe García Pérez, President of the Socialists and Democrats Group in the European Parliament.

They will lobby MEPs and EU leaders on issues that matter most to young women and address how the EU can overcome barriers and scale up its commitments to girls’ rights.

Subjects that will be covered include education, economic empowerment, participation in decision-making, and combating violence against girls and young women.

This event is organised by a coalition of civil society organisations as part of the seventh European Week of Action for Girls (EWAG) in the lead up to the International Day of the Girl on 11 October.
