A MAN dubbed ‘Hannibal Lecter’ and known as one of the most dangerous prisoners in Spain has been found dead in his cell.
Frabrizio Joao Silva Ribeiro, was incarcerated in the A Lama prison (Pontevedra). The native of Guinea Bissau, was held in solitary confinement due to the high danger he posed to prison guards and other inmates.
He was serving time after being convicted of murdering his wife and assaulting another prisoner and was not due to be released until 2047.
Silva also had a case pending for a brutal assault on officials at the Puerto 3 prison in El Puerto de Santa Maria (Cadiz). Five warders were hospitalised. Images of the latter incident were broadcast by several television channels. The brutality and viciousness of the assault led to him being given his nickname.
Silva passed through different prisons, as is usually done with this type of dangerous prisoner, and since January he had been held in A Lama. Not long ago he sent a letter to the prison management to warn that he would disobey officials and eight days ago he began a hunger strike that he had abandoned on the day he died.
Prison sources say that Silva was constantly monitored by medical services, which did not detect any health problems. His weight at time of death was 107 kilos.
He was found on the floor of his cell’s bathroom with a blow to his face, thought to be caused when he fell. A post mortem examination will be carried out.
