Serial thief under arrest GUARDIA Civil have arrested a man from Cuevas del Almanzora suspected of carrying out 27 robberies. The detention of 44-year old G.M.R. followed reports of a break-in at an ironwork business and the theft of a section of public lighting electrical cabling in Cuevas. The Guardia said the total value of the damage and the stolen materials at the commercial premises was nearly €500, while the cost of replacing the missing cabling was more than €2,500. It was while Guardia officers were inspecting the location of the latter theft that officers spotted the suspect, a known delinquent, carrying cabling similar to that which had been nicked. He made off when he saw the officers. But a joint team of Guardia and Cuevas del Almanzora Local Police officers set out to find him. They surprised the 44-year old while he was transferring the cabling. Investigators subsequently linked him to 25 other similar-style robberies in terms of the tactics used to break in and the kind of materials stolen.
