A BRITISH ex-pat accused of stabbing his girlfriend in the back at the couple’s Orihuela Costa home is set to do nine years behind bars, according to press reports.

David Grundy, who was 53 at the time of the attack in June 2017, has reportedly accepted the prison sentence at the Alicante Provincial Court.

Police arrested Grundy in Benidorm five days after he did a runner. The daughter of his 42-year old victim found her mother with a knife embedded in her back. Paramedics rushed the victim to hospital, where she had to undergo an operation to have the weapon removed.

An international arrest warrant was put out for Grundy. Police eventually caught up with him when he returned to a car parked outside the Aparthotel Bermudas in the Rincon de Loix district.

Inside the vehicle, which belonged to neighbours whose house he was looking after, the officers discovered clothes and €4,600 in cash, which they believe he had intended to use to leave the country.
