BENIDORM was the epicentre of international base jumping at the weekend.
For yet another year the Gran Hotel Bali, the highest hotel in Europe, hosted the BASE Jump Extreme World Championship.
The expert competitors launched themselves into the air from the hotel’s 160-metre high observation deck. Undoubted adrenaline junkies, they had to know the exact moment to open their parachutes, spectacularly coming down to earth right on target next to one of the hotel’s swimming pools.
American Justin Bietler was the top jumper in the Benidorm event and the winner of the whole BASE 2019 circuit after coming first in the final test.
He was 35 points above the UK’s Thomas Berryman, who was one of the competition favourites, and who was second overall.
Spain’s Eder Navacerrada was ranked third.
