THE judging panel of the Tenth Evaristo Guerra Painting Competition has been left with no choice but to revoke the winning entry due to a plagiarism claim.
The competition, held last month, was won by Velez Malaga based artist María Ascensión Moreno Gámez.
Her painting depicted two eggs frying in a pan with the title “Flavours of Yesteryear”.
As her work became public, the judging panel received a complaint from a member of the public after her painting bore a striking resemblance to a piece by Bulgarian artist Ignat Ignatov.
After two weeks of decision making the judging panel has decided to remove the award from Moreno Gámez and are now in the process of organising a painting to take the award in its place and receive the €3,000 prize from the Provincial Council of Malaga.
