Moraira Beach Clean-Up This Sunday

Moraira Beach Clean-Up This Sunday

Get the family to pitch in
VOLUNTEERS are clearing Moraira’s beaches and coastline of plastics and litter this Sunday, October 27.
The Environment and Tourism departments, together with the municipally-owned Teumo rubbish collecting service, are organising the event which councillor Carlos Martinez trusts will achieve more than a clean-up.
“As well as clearing rubbish from the shoreline, we hope to make people aware of, and more understanding towards, climate change as well promoting good practices in the way they dispose of rubbish,” Martinez said.
The volunteers meet on the Castillo esplanade at 8.45am and from there will spread out to the town’s principal beaches and coves, while Teumo will provide logistic help.
“Initiatives like these are included in the United Nations’s programme of Sustainable Development Goals (ODS in Spanish) designed to combat climate change and defend the marine environment,” Martinez said.
Next Sunday’s event is suitable for people of all ages although the organisers hope to make it a family outing.
“It’s within the family and in everyday activities where it’s easiest to demonstrate good habits benefitting the environment which help to reduce the amount of rubbish that we generate,” the councillor explained.
Register to take part on 96 574 0158, by emailing medioambiente@teuladamoraira.org or at either of the Moraira or Teulada SIT Offices as well as the Oficina de Turismo in Moraira.
