Fishing Ban In The Mar Menor

San Pedro del Pinatar fishermen and the Regional Administration have come to agreement that there’ll be no fishing in the Mar Menor until 2020.

This follows on from the recent disaster when millions of fish and crustaceans were found dead after the storms vastly lowering fish stocks.

According to the President of the Fishermen’s Association, the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and the Environment will pay 50% of the monies that the fishermen will lose as a result of the deal.

Over the next three months, the suspension will allow experts to determine the full extent of the damage that that the water without oxygen has caused to the fishing grounds, as well as allowing stocks to begin their recovery to more sustainable levels.
