New railway theme park in Marratxi

RAILWAY MUSEUM: Part of plans to build new railway theme park in Marratxi.

THE Town Hall of Marratxi has announced its plans to build a new railway theme park in the neighbourhood.
Backing a proposal from the Mallorca Steam Railway Club, the Town Hall has given the go ahead for the theme park to be constructed on 25,000 m2 of land that lies between Festival Park and Bauhaus.
Some of the features of the park will include level crossings, bridges, a turntable and a tunnel. There will also be a museum for railway and industrial equipment, includinga 1919 Baldwin steam locomotive.
The first phase of the project will involve building a station and depot, whilst laying two-thirds of the track which is expected to be completed during the second phase, when viaducts will be added.
The Mallorca Steam Railway Club will be in charge of the park’s activities, whilst the Town Hall will be responsible for maintenance, electricity, water and its insurance contract.
