THE IV Moscatel de Almáchar Market is set for Almachar on Saturday 9 November at the Maria Zambrano Cultural Park from 10.30am to 6.30pm.
The Mayor of Almachar, Antonio Yuste, the councillor for Fiestas and Tourism, Mario Torres and the president of the Muscatel Association José Manuel Díaz launched this years market on Thursday 31 October, revealing a packed bay of activities celebrating the regions prize export.
The festival is aimed at showcasing the fantastic flavours and versatility of the Muscatel Grape, a prize winning grape that is exported all over the world.
The Muscatel grape is also classed as part of the World Agricultural Heritage by the FAO.
Tastings, show cooking, wine tasting and educational talks are all on the agenda as well as grape treading, food vendors and dance performances all traditional to the Almachar area.
“La Axarquía has been enjoying this market for four years and the Moscatel Association thought it up with great success. More and more people and producers come to Almáchar to participate in one way or another in this gastronomic, folkloric and cultural event,” explained José Juan Jimenez, president of the Costa del Sol Commonwealth of Municipalities.
