A BRITISH fugitive wanted for drugs and kidnapping offences has been arrested in Marbella.

He was hiding on the Costa del Sol after being sentenced to jail by North Tyneside Court to two years and 15 days jail, with 18 months still to be served.

The 32-year-old from Sunderland, said Guardia Civil, had a European Arrest and Surrender Order issued by the UK courts for drug trafficking, kidnapping, illegal detention and hostage taking.

A.S. was spotted in the vicinity of Avenida de Miguel de Cervantes. Once his identity and the validity of the warrant were verified, police arrested him and took him to police headquarters.

According to the United Kingdom authorities, the detained man along with another individual had kidnapped a person to steal 27 kilos of cocaine. They handcuffed and tortured the victim until they obtained information on where the narcotic was hidden.

The arrested person has been placed at the disposal of the Central Court of Instruction Number Five of the National Court for an extradition hearing.
