THE Costa del Sol is getting too hot for criminals looking to evade the long arm of the law, according to a report in El Pais newspaper.
In 2017, 108 fugitives were arrested by National Police along the coast. So far this year the number has fallen to just 31.
A spokesman for the police force’s Fugitives Department said: “The Costa del Sol is no longer a safe place for those who flee from the Law.”
Costa del Sol National police say their success in tracking down criminals from all over the world has led to them seeking other destinations.
Instead Barcelona in particular has become a ‘safer’ destination for those on the run from the law, while Madrid sees about 150 fugitives arrested each year. The Costa Brava, Alicante and Balearics are other favourites too.
