THE RUN-UP to the 32nd San Silvestre Villa race in Huercal-Overa has begun.
The council Sports department-organised event will be held on Saturday December 21, the local authority has announced.
The race is expected to bring hundreds of athletes to the municipality for the various categories.
First prize will be €200, second prize €120 and third prize €75. Fourth across the finishing line will win €50, fifth €40 and those coming in from sixth to tenth will get €20.
There will also be trophies for the top three.
The race for the youngest participants will get underway at 4.30pm and the adult race will start at 5pm. The starting line will be the fairground next to the sports pavillion.
Sports councillor Alejandro Campos encouraged “all athletes from the municipality, region, province and nearby provinces to take part in the Huercal-Overa San Silvestre, the oldest race of these characteristics in Almeria province.”
The councillor said the local authority was excited to be preparing the event, which he described as “a reference point for provincial athletes”, and as the starting point for the municipality’s Festive Season celebrations.
