Iberostar Group awarded at the International Travel and Tourism Awards

IBEROSTAR Group has been awarded the highest accolade at the International Travel and Tourism Awards in the category of ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Travel & Tourism Industry’.

The winners were announced at the coveted gala held in London this week which was attended by more than 500 professionals from the tourism sector.

The International Travel & Tourism Awards are a benchmark in the industry and which focus upon organisations and individuals promotion of good practices. The awards recognise proposals from companies, destinations or business initiatives that stand out for innovation, human interest or a commitment to sustainability.

This year, the jury praised Iberostar’s effort to promote responsible tourism in projects that strive to preserve the environment and the oceans that surround their hotels. In addition, their ‘Wave of Change’ movement has eliminated the use of single-use plastics, the responsible consumption of fish and the improvement of coastal health.

In 2018, the group eliminated all single-use plastics in the rooms of their hotels in Spain and the corporate headquarters of the Group, which halted the generation of over 300 tons of plastic each year. In 2019, they extended this commitment to the rooms in all of their hotels, where in 2020, single-use plastics will have been completely eliminated from any of their spaces.

Alongside this, the group has introduced projects that promote a circular economy, actions against climate change, improvements to reduce emissions and projects that encourage the use of renewable energies or the optimisation of water management.
