FUNDING: Restaurants, bars, clubs and shops in Calvià will be able to apply for grants to modernise the premises. Credit: First Choice.
THE Mayor of Calvià has announced that a great deal of resources will be made available to improve the municipality. Alfonso Rodríguez has revealed that money will be made available to bars, clubs, restaurants and shops in the region, where there will be “new and more potent” grants for modernisation. The town hall has made these grants available in the past, however in recent years funding has fallen by 75% due to a lack of take-up by businesses. In 2017, the town hall set aside a budget of €110,000, but only two establishments applied for grants – one in Palmanova and the other in Paguera. The spending in 2018 was then lowered to €49,000 euros, but the number of applicants rose to nineteen. This year, the town hall set aside €28,000, although the number of grants that were awarded dropped to nine. The grants are intended to be used for improving the condition of establishments and can be used for a range of purposes such as painting, signage or furnishings.
