A 23-YEAR old man is under arrest on suspicion of sparking off a blaze outside his ex-girlfriend’s house in Gandia.
He faces charges of gender-based violence attempted homicide and starting a fire which put others’ lives in danger.
Guardia Civil launched the operation dubbed ‘Melaya’ following the fire outside the house in the early hours of the morning on August 17. The flames destroyed tree vehicles, a moped and killed two dogs which were near to the cars.
Due to the seriousness of the case, the Valencia Guardia Civil Fire Group carried out an inspection of the scene to determine the cause of the blaze. They determined it had been started intentionally.
Further investigations revealed a man had been seen on the day in question in the area around the property where the fire started and where the former girlfriend lived. The investigating officers picked up on one detail in particular: the dogs had not barked, suggesting they knew the individual.
