VIII Annual Great Food Collection in Mijas, Costa del Sol

THE Mijas Council is solidly behind the need to assist those who are having difficulty in affording to feed themselves and is participating in the food collection for Bancosol on November 22 and 23.

Bancosol Alimentos is a non-profit organization relying on volunteers to collects food for people at risk of social exclusion in the province of Malaga and works with a number of different companies, public institutions and charities.

Councillor Mariló Olmedo has explained that  for this exercise to work, the organisers need to attract some 4,000 to 5,000 volunteers across Malaga Province and Mijas residents will be very welcome to become involved, as will those just happy to donate non-perishable food at participating supermarkets.

The organisation distributes food to around 48,000 people in the province, some of whom live in parts of Mijas and last year collected and gave out in excess of 5.8 million kilos of food.

Areas where assistance will be particularly welcome are Calahonda and La Cala.
