El Presidente comes of age

SPECIAL OCCASION: Bob Welham and his coming-of-age celebrations Photo credit: Vall del Pop U3A

THERE was a full house at the U3A Vall del Pop’s latest general assembly.
Members were there to take the opportunity of wishing their president, Bob Welham, a happy 70th birthday with a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday.
After his performance the previous week on his plastic trumpet and guitar with The Entertainers, it was debatable which “age” he had come to, especially after he was caught with his birthday cake and its racing car candles.
Notwithstanding, Bob was congratulated on finally reaching maturity but informed that the downhill run starts now.
The general assembly also welcomed 13 new members, bringing numbers up to 828 for the year.
The groups’ coordinators Maria and Theresa announced a new Astronomy Group which will meet on Fridays, and the renamed Arts and Drawing Group which now becomes the Mixed Media Arts Group and meets on alternate Mondays at 2pm at Casa Claudia in Jalon.
Both groups are looking for new members, as is the Yarn and Thread Group, which meets every second and fourth Monday at 11am in the Cappucino Bar in Orba.
Those interested should consult the Vall del Pop U3A website to check the dates and register interest with the leader of the chosen group.
The Wine Tasting Group is urgently looking for a new leader, so those with an interest in wine might be willing to take up the challenge of finding interesting bodegas and wineries for trips, rewarding wines and – usually -tapas.
