THE 22 members of the Alfaz and Albir Taxi-drivers’ Association recently presented their app, “pidetaxi.” When alerted via the app, the nearest taxi-driver will locate the caller via geolocation and arrive immediately, explained the Association’s Jose Luis Giner. At present payment must still be made in the cab itself, although Giner said that online payment with a smartphone would soon be possible. The local taxi sector was aware that it was necessary to work on equal terms with taxi services like Uber or Cabify, said Alfaz’s Mobility councillor Toni Such, who welcomed the effort the taxi-drivers were making, and which he predicted would bring more demand and customer loyalty.
