RESTORED: 1990 mural in Plaza del Mosquit Photo credit: Calpe town hall
CALPE’S Culture department will restore murals on several Old Town buildings. First in line for rehabilitation is a 1990 mural by Elias Urbez in Plaza del Mosquit, having first received authorisation from the owners of properties in the building. The town hall has also received permission from Elias Urbez and his son Jordi Urbez for the €40,000 restoration by David Trujillo, Ivan Albalate and Jose Antonio Hinojos, lecturers at the Fine Arts faculty in Altea. Work should be finished by the end of the year, announced Calpe’s Culture councillor Pilar Carbrera. Once restoring the Elias Urbez mural has been completed, experts will begin on the mural carried out in 1989 by Pierre Le Fleur, located in Calle Santisimo Cristo and Reverendo Peñalva in front of the Peça tower.
