POLICE caught a thief red-handed chilling out in the Denia Mayor country house in the Montgo area.
According to reports officers found the robber sprawled on the sofa, knocking back a Coca-Cola, puffing on a cigarette and watching the telly.
In a plastic bag he had a few items of no particular value which he had taken from the property.
It was reportedly the Mayor Vicent Grimalt who raised the alarm after going to the family property. A sliding door would not open, plus he discovered a suspicious-looking hole. He decided to turn round and call the police.
The same individual is also reportedly suspected of trying to rob another house a day earlier only to find the owners were at home, managing to drop his ID in his haste to get away.
Spanish press identified the suspect as a 26-year old Ukranian.
