A couple who abandoned their dog and also neglected to care for it have been charged by Guardia Civil after a neighbour took a video of the pitiful pet running after his owners’ car.
The neighbour shared the video he had shot on his mobile phone on social media, and it was picked up by the Association of Abandoned Animals of Granada who reported it to the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) of the Comandancia of Granada on October 7.
Agents located the owners who were from Dangers, in Granada, and discovered the dog had no microchip or health card. A veterinarian condemned the dog’s owners for failing to care for the its health.
The Civil Guard said in a press release that it has instructed criminal proceedings against a 50-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman from Armilla who are accused of a crime against wildlife, for abandoning and neglect.
In addition to instructing criminal proceedings for an alleged crime related to domestic animals in relation to absence of a health care and animal neglect, Civil Guard Seprona has denounced to the competent authority the animal not having been registered in the Andalusian Registry of Animal Identification.
The dog will be re-homed.
