World Diabetes Awareness Day in La Cala de Mijas Costa del Sol

La Cala Lions fighting diabetes

LAST Thursday was World Diabetes Awareness Day and the La Cala de Mijas Lions, along with two diabetic nurses, were outside the La Cala de Mijas Town Hall providing tests to check the blood sugar levels of passers-by.

More than 100 people were tested and advised by the nurses of ways to keep their blood sugar levels under control over a five day period which was followed by a Fun Walk last Sunday.

The testing is part of the Lions International Federation campaign, which has so far tested nearly one million people, world-wide.

Anne Bowles, a Lions member, runs the diabetic support group, telephone 607 879 450 and holds a meeting once a month in Fuengirola.

Further details and information regarding this and other Lions events, especially the Christmas Fayre on November 30 at Treetops Restaurant La Chaparral Golf, can be obtained from the Lions Charity Shop in Calle Torremolinos, La Cala de Mijas or by calling 637 185 533.
