BENIDORM’s town hall is to replace the wooden decking that runs parallel to the Poniente beach promenade at a cost of €1.2 million. “We want a more hard-wearing alternative that is completely accessible and will protect the sand,” said Public Works councillor Jose Ramon Gonzalez de Zarate. The solution, which will involve 5,400 square metres of decking, involves “several layers topped with concrete whose finish resembles wood,” he explained. “We can maintain a similar aesthetic while providing a stable, sustainable and more weather-resistant,” he said, adding that the investment would eventually pay for itself as the replacement decking requires less upkeep.
